Using Split Screen for Digital Painting

Use Value Study alongside your painting app.

Value Study works side-by-side with any digital painting app. Keep your reference visible while you paint, without switching between apps.

A small but important note.

Value Study is a reference tool. It is there to support your practice, not replace it. The real learning happens when you sit down and paint the studies yourself. Use the app to experiment quickly and see more clearly, but not as a substitute for actually painting value studies.

On iPad

  1. Open your painting app (Procreate, etc)
  2. Swipe up from the bottom to show the Dock
  3. Tap and hold the Value Study icon in the Dock
  4. Drag it to the right edge of the screen
  5. Adjust the divider between apps to your preference

On Android

  1. Open your painting app (Clip Studio Paint, etc)
  2. Tap the Recent Apps button (square icon at the bottom)
  3. Tap the app icon at the top of the card
  4. Select "Split screen"
  5. Tap Value Study to open it in the second window
  6. Adjust the divider between apps to your preference

Both apps will stay open together. Load your reference in Value Study and start painting.

Works with any painting app: Procreate, Adobe Fresco, Infinite Painter, Ibis Paint X, Autodesk Sketchbook, and more. As long as the app supports split screen, it will work with Value Study.
