Building Value Study

Value Study started as a personal tool I built to help myself learn to see values correctly. As someone learning to paint, I was frustrated by how hard it was to train my eye to see values accurately. I needed something simple, fast, and that worked right on my phone alongside my canvas.

What began as a weekend project has grown into an app used by thousands of artists worldwide. From beginners taking their first steps to professional artists refining their compositions. Every feature comes from real conversations with artists about what actually helps them improve.

I'm proud that Value Study remains completely independent. No investors, no ad tracking, no uploading your artwork to the cloud. Just a tool that does one thing really well.

Background

I'm a software developer by trade, but art has always been part of my life. I studied computer science, spent years building products for various companies, and eventually realized the projects I cared most about were the ones I built for myself.

Value Study combines both worlds. My technical skills in app development and my genuine passion for learning to paint and draw. I'm not claiming to be a master artist, but I understand the struggle of trying to see values correctly because I'm on that same journey.
