Toggle Color

The color toggle lets you instantly switch between viewing your image in full color and pure grayscale. This is one of the most powerful tools for training yourself to see values independently of hue.

How it works

With a single tap, you can remove all color information from your image, leaving only the value structure. Toggle back and forth to compare how color can sometimes mask value relationships.

Why it's useful

Converting to grayscale helps you:

  • See value relationships clearly without color distraction
  • Identify areas where different colors have similar values
  • Check if your composition works in value alone
  • Understand how cameras and eyes perceive different colored lights

Tips for use

Try toggling between color and grayscale while using the eyedropper. You might be surprised to find that a bright yellow and a light blue have very similar values, even though they look completely different in color.
